Capt Phillips harkens back to the days when every Tom Hanks movie was a surefire cinematic event. It affords the legendary actor his meatiest role in years and plunges the audience head first into the true story of a hijacking of a ship by Somali pirates. Director Paul Greengrass is the ideal choice for a film such as this. His shaky camera and claustrophobic shooting style add unbearable suspense to a film allready rife with tension and emotion. Hanks is typically rock solid and the decision to use non-actors as the Somali pirates works brilliantly. The last 30 minutes, involving SEAL TEAM 6, will have audiences holding their breath the entire time.
