A powerful and gripping film. Tom Hanks gives a stellar performance in a largely solo plot. The movie invokes some genuine heartfelt emotion particularly during scenes involving his only friend, a volleyball he scavenges from items washed up on beach that he dubs "Wilson". The brilliant filming of these scenes allows Tom Hanks to have a one-sided dialogue Wilson that reveals a great deal about his psyche and mental struggles as a castaway. This is a truly great film, and a wonderful testament to both Tom Hanks as an actor and the strength of the human spirit.
