    Corpus Christi: Playing with Redemption

The documentary Corpus Christi revolves around Terrence McNally's controversial passion play depicting Jesus Christ as gay growing up in the Texas of the 1950's. It is not the play itself but discussions of its various LGBT issues and themes with the various actors who have been part of it as well as the productions and controversies as it played across America. Many of the Apostles were played by Lesbian women. It all started in 1998 but productions of the pretty blasphemous play are done regularly, the last I have knowledge of in 2011. Of course, the play was heartily embraced by the LGBT community.

I don't think the documentary itself is particularly good, but, that's hardly the issue. I am a very LIBERAL person on almost all issues and have empathy with many LGBT issues as Gays have been persecuted through the years and still are in many parts of the world. I suppose I have no right to an opinion on the play as I never did see it. However, the content of the documentary discusses the play and it goes a bit too far for me. I cannot think in those terms on matters that are so important not only to Catholics but to ALL Christians. I wasn't offended by the content as these matters have come up before. Yet I do not and have never subscribed to such outrageous notions about Christ. I was shocked at the reactions of the LGBT community regarding the play embracing it as holy dogma. It could well have been the second coming of Christ as far as they were concerned. Sometimes matters go just a bit too far.
