What pleased me so very much was to see Oscar Winner Mira Sorvino in a worthy film at last. Since her Oscar Win in MIGHTY APHRODITE years ago she's had a pretty shaky career which astounds me as she is such a fine actress. I hope this leads to other good roles.
The response of the public to " Do You Believe? " pleases me very much as it is a film of faith, which, as a Catholic, I know can't always be explained or even understood. We are taught to accept precepts of our faith unconditionally, but one is not commanded to do so. If one wants to distance himself/herself from the faith, nothing is barring the way. More than a great many times such people will make the journey back to their faith especially in this day and age devoid of the things that make a life worth living.
The longing of diverse individuals for something better, something more powerful in life reflects much of today's society which is at wits end with all that is going wrong in our world. There must be a another and better way as one makes one's way in this difficult world. The discovery which many will make is nothing new as such a discovery has been made by billions of people through the many centuries since Christ inhabited this earth. The encountering of real faith, as shown in this feature, proves to be something so strong, so action filled that it can indeed start a movement of benefaction that does impact on people in ways we don't truly know how to explain. Those who are cynical and believe in nothing... well let them go on believing in nothing. But let them not dictate their worthless lives on those who have some purpose and meaning happening!
