    Edison, the Man

After Mickey Rooney played Edison as a boy at MGM and saved his mother's life by one of his strokes of genius inventions, the studio went ahead as planned with Edison, the Man. This is a sweet little film by Clarence Brown, one of Hollywood's luminary early directors. Everything about the film is likable including Spencer Tracy's performance. We literally witness everything we know of this genius including his calm easy way of proceeding even when on a bit of a tightrope. The film is a very old-fashioned bio-pic which in this case does not stray far from the truth. But honestly speaking! I don't think a 2015 audience could cozy up to a film of this nature. It's sad because I have loved Old Hollywood since a boy and still marvel at all the greatness that came from the Studio System! One great thing is that those Turner fanatics can't get enough of that very old golden age!
