Though I found the film compelling enough, it isn't a cinematic masterpiece especially as I recently saw the 60's Julie Christie version with a cast that is pure gold. The great novel has a great deal to offer and this filmed version can't be looked down upon especially with Carey Mulligan in the lead. But was it really necessary to remake this classic?
