Foxcatcher has been on my must see list since I first saw the trailer and it is a stunning depiction of a real life tragedy, brought to life by a trio of superb acting performances. Although Steve Carell's haunting, transformational turn as John Dupont is sure to get much of the glory come Oscar time, not enough can be said about the work of Mark Ruffalo and particularly Channing Tatum as the Schultz brothers. Tatum delivers surely his best screen work to date, with a role that finally allows him to step out of the romantic leading man/comedic sidekick box he has so far been relegated to and explore a real character. Ruffalo is equally good, offsetting Tatum's intensity with a quiet, reserved style. Although not a film you would necessarily enjoy per se, especially by it's conclusion, it is certainly one that demands to be seen and appreciated by as many people as possible.
