    Furious 7

The Fast and Furious series jumped the shark a long time ago, and with this installment the action is bigger, the dialogue is cheesier, and the stunts are more and more unrealistic. And it's fun! These movies are able to achieve something that most films can not, and that is the stupider they are, the better they get. There is an obvious level of self-awareness to the movie that demonstrates that it knows what it is; you aren't here for an Oscar worthy plot, brilliant acting, or intelligent dialogue. You're here to have fun watching explosions, car chases and listen to cheesy one-liners. Furious 7 delivers that in spades. On top of the relentless action, the movie ties together a lot of plot points from previous installments which is sure to please fans. And while I'm fairly certain we are going to see more Fast and Furious movies, Furious 7 really does feel like a "final chapter." Director James Wan comes from a horror background (Insidious, Conjuring etc.) and he brings one very special element to the movie: Jason Statham's character as the villain wasn't just an obstacle, he was a menace. Furious 7 as a whole is cliche, but a whole lot of fun. While the acting is not great, and not all of the plot or stunts make sense, it works. The film provides its share of spectacular action and effects, as well as certain elements that make it stand out as its own movie in the series.

I want to address separately the tragedy that everybody involved with this movie had to cope with. Paul Walker's tragic passing happened during production, and for a long time, it was unclear what would happen with the movie. However, after production delays, the filmmakers were able to follow through with the movie, and not only did they not try to capitalize on "Paul Walker's last role as Brian O'Connor" but they also paid great respect to the actor and the character in the movie itself. The homage wasn't just respectful, it was perfect; making it my favourite scene from any movie I have seen this year.
