To those of us who have ever loved a character from a novel to the point of almost seeing, feeling and breathing them, will love this movie. In fact, even those who have not lived such a priceless experience will probably care for this movie. Is it a comedy, a tragedy or just a slice of life, magically displayed in a lavish part of France? I would say it’s all of these and more. If you enjoy good food, especially ‘’killer’’ bread, great wine and tantalising conversation, then this movie is for you. In addition, you will also witness a love triangle with multiple possibilities that are not always immediately obvious. Gemma Arterton is sublime as a bored young bride -- a sort of modern Madame Bovary -- and Fabrice Luchini is, as always, multi-faceted and engaging as the middle-aged married man and unsatisfied baker who triggers -- almost without wanting to -- a very entertaining series of events.
