Is this a documentary laying the evils of a pseudo religion on the table for everyone to see? Or is it a simple damnation by disgruntled former members? The press, on screening the film prior to its release, almost unanimously considered it a valid expose of the Scientology Church. The practice of 'shunning', experienced by former members who dare to speak out, is not new though for many religions. In the Roman Catholic Church it is called 'ex-communication', and Islam takes it a quantum-sized step further, sometimes recommending the murder of those who deny the faith. Although the Church of Scientology doesn't go that far, personal harassment and law suits against the 'drop-outs is always a possibility. The religion now claims to have 10,000 Churches, Missions and affiliated groups worldwide. The film gives a good background of the 'Why' of Scientology, and its founder L. Ron Hubbard would be pleased with everything except 'why' it's taking so long.
