The whodunnit here is really secondary to a comment piece about social class in 1930's England. What seems more important to director Robert Altman is his theme that the upper class aristocracy are self-serving fools and the working class must suffer under them. This theme gets a little monotonous as the film plods along but the photography, performances and art direction manage to salvage this film.
