    Harry Dean Stanton: Partly Fiction

I am not a particularly admiring fan of Harry Dean Stanton, actually one of his films, PARIS, TEXAS on my 5 worst movies of all time though most seem to love this iconic film. I simply could not abide with it. Yet I will admit that there is enough to admire in this octogenarian who has done so much in life, most of which even ardent movie fans are unaware. His hundreds of films (close to 250) must surely be a record; even John Wayne doesn't come close with roughly 150 movies to his credit. His close association with folk music has garnered him a well earned reputation as a specialist in the category. His accomplishments are numerous so the laurels are well-founded. My initial statement might have sounded harsh. It's not that I dislike him, but have never been able to know him well as I do most Hollywood legends and folk singers. Aside from facts of career, we see what the DOC and director do really quite well, getting right down to the nitty gritty of what has made this man tick, getting into the profundity of his soul, a man of even temperament with great passions, remarkable gifts, a gentle man of great accomplishment at 88 years young, still active, no mean feat. The testaments given by awesome creative artists who are wholly sincere simply add to the reputation of someone who is very highly regarded.
