Hector and the Search for Happiness

Great cast in a so so satiric film (Simon Pegg, Rosamund Pike, Toni Colette, Christopher Plumber etc), a film on the search of happiness, a search that essentially turns into a road movie. Some of the journeys are totally absurd as scripted and directed, others fare a bit better. I found myself at odds with the film, overall! It can be a very polarizing movie on many facets. Despite my admiration of sure fire Oscar Nominee Rosamund Pike for Gone Girl, I'm being generous by giving it a 5. Sort of proves the theory that great jobs, tons of money or whatever have you is NO guarantee of true happiness. This is odd-ball film will appeal more to a ruddy bunch, persons who are more indiscriminate and laugh at anything. A more serious minded person could be quite offended by what's in the script and how it's directed. Too many comedy-dramas are saturating the market and most can be a deadly two hours caught in a cinema. On the whole, premises, screen writing often direction get caught up in some whirlwind without adequate thought to the over-all freshness of the film. Get one finished on a 24 day shoot and move on to the next. There's no truly high esteem for HECTOR but compared to the DETESTABLE, HATEFUL, LUDICROUS, FLAT OUT BOREDOM of the new adaptation of Thurber's WALTER MITTY, I would choose Hector. To make WALTER MITTY with the ideas they had was absolutely criminal. I WAS SO GLAD TO SEE IT BOMB BIG TIME AT THE BOX_OFFICE!
