    I Am Breathing

I AM BREATHING, a documentary about a husband and father. Neil Platt, is such a touching piece of film making that it is pretty difficult not to get misty eyed during its 75 minute running time. We come to meet a healthy, loving, caring man who literally disintegrates in the presence of wife and young son Oscar due to Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis in less than a year. This horrendous degenerative disease paralyses a person with death not very far off, within a year of diagnosis.

What this great father does for his son, Oscar, as the end is fast approaching will both stun and surprise you. There is such love in this man that your heart bleeds for him in view of his horrendous medical condition. For me, this is as saintly as it gets. Can anything be more generous or caring than this legacy from father to very young son? When the boy grows old enough to understand, he will learn he had an exceptional father. When Oscar's cognitive skills are fully formed, he will come to venerate this man who gave him life and left him a remarkable bestowal that came from a heart he could no longer feel, a benefaction the mature Oscar will cherish for the rest of his own life. A heartbreaking but beautiful story of a heroic man!

This story must absolutely be made into a feature film reminding me so much of great movies like LUST FOR LIFE, MY LEFT FOOT, THE THEORY OF EVERYTHING and many more of this genre. Without question it would be a hit and Oscar Winner Eddie Redmayne could have another go at a film dealing with horrific malady.
