    I Am Steve McQueen

Steve McQueen is an actor I would love to have met. He was the embodiment of the quintessential male of his generation. His performances all look so effortless, yet movie making was only one side of this complex man who unfortunately died of cancer at age 50. The ultra compliments for him are in deadly earnest as he was a revered star of old Hollywood. I suppose the most significant thoughts come from Canadian director Norman Jewison who directed Mr. McQueen in several movies such as "The Cincinnati Kid". It's pretty heartbreaking to learn of Mr. McQueen's desperate means and methods of curing a cancer too far advanced to be cured. See the original " The Thomas Crown Affair " to understand the magnetism of this great star! There are several scenes from this film that have become absolutely immortal! It's all a testament to Steve McQueen! The Great Escape and The Sand Pebbles ( Steve McQueen's only Oscar Nomination) are a good and diverse ways of coming to know this man and actor.
