King Kong - the maritime version! Things get bad and sad, badder and sadder and finally seriously bad and seriously sad. It's a good, well done yarn about whalers trying to cope with disaster and finding the willpower to do whatever it takes to survive. Plenty of action and a good look at some of the less glamorous aspects of human character. The acting is all very good and believable. Not much character development, but it's not really that kind of movie. It's really about folding back the layers of skin to look at the less seemly bits underneath. Don't go if you're in need of a bit of a "pick me up". If you're feeling strong, it's a great movie.
