    Interstellar

Interstellar seemed like it was a film that was just made for me. From a very young age, I have had two main interests and passions: film and space; specifically quantum physics. From the day that this movie was announced, I was beyond excited! I would consider myself to be a Nolan fanboy, but I'm not afraid to admit it. The guy's an amazing filmmaker! After years of waiting, my most anticipated movie EVER has finally been released. Well, I'm stoked to say that Interstellar is a flawed masterpiece!!! I'm not going to bother recounting the plot, because I might accidentally veer into spoiler territory. All I'll say is that the story is one of the best parts of Interstellar. It really is a three-act film. It feels like three movies in one. The first act, on Earth, really develops the setting and characters. The second act is pretty brilliant, with some incredible space-shots. The third act is the highlight of the film for me, especially the finale. I won't spoil anything, but was a moment where I felt like my brain exploded. The characters in Interstellar are perfectly developed. Matthew McConaughey proves to be one of the most talented actors working today, as he gives an excellent and emotional performance as Cooper. Anne Hathaway, while not in the film a whole lot, also gives a very emotional performance. The entire supporting cast did fantastic performances. Obviously, Michael Cane gave a great performance, but he wasn't the highlight of the supporting cast. Jessica Chastain gives an Oscar-worthy performance that once again proves how amazing she is. The science in Interstellar astonished and perplexed me beyond measure! It was so well used and made me constantly interested in everything that was happening in every single scene! However, many audiences may find themselves to be confused by just how complex and complicated some of this is. I was not one of those people. At a whopping three-hour runtime, I was never once bored and kept engaged for the entire film! It never dragged and was always interesting. The visuals and cinematography in this film are... my God... they're masterful. Please, I urge you to see this movie on the BIGGEST screen possible. I saw it on IMAX 70 mm and it was a total feast for the eyes. Even on Earth, the film was visually gorgeous. This film is also totally thrilling, with a couple of scenes that had my heart pounding out of my chest. Interstellar is superbly written, with realistic dialogue and some very scientific speech. The emotional scenes were made even better with the quality of the writing. The musical score from Hans Zimmer was fantastic and the sound editing was also superb. Nolan directed this movie to near perfection, as he always does. This movie is extremely ambitious, along the lines of 2001: A Space Odyssey. Interstellar could have easily gotten a perfect score and been my favourite movie of the year, but it isn't. There are a number of minor flaws that deduct from the film. Firstly, without spoiling anything, there's a certain person that shows up around halfway through the movie that really took me out of the experience. There was a subplot with Cooper's son that was totally unnecessary and brutally underdeveloped. The final five minutes or so also felt super convenient and like it was forced. Overall, though, Interstellar is an ambitious, gorgeous and interesting, yet still flawed science fiction film. The film mostly lives up to my sky-high expectations. Please see it ASAP on the biggest screen possible! RATING: 9.75/10.
