    Interstellar

There are so many great movies playing in theatres right now, but none that demand to be seen on the big screen as much as Interstellar. If for nothing else, this movie is a visual experience, much like last year's Gravity (I regret not having the opportunity to see Interstellar in IMAX) The special effects are "out of this world" (space pun) The movie has big scope, and grand scale; you really do feel the enormity of space. While the movie is visually impressive, it also feels very intimate. The characters are not just one dimensional plot devices with no purpose other than to show off CGI (cough cough Transformers: Age of Extinction) The roles develop as layered, dynamic personalities that become the centre of the story; and are brought to life by some phenomenal acting. Matthew McConaughey shines in the lead role. His performance is subtle yet powerful, something I would like to see more of in big Hollywood blockbusters. Mackenzie Foy is also impressive in the role of McConaughey's daughter. Jessica Chastain is another actor who stands out in her role as well. Not a single performance brought the movie down, which I attribute to excellent casting decisions and masterful directing from Christopher Nolan. I find astronomy and physics extremely interesting, therefore the science embedded in the plot really intrigued me. The plot itself is also very well laid out, and while some people might complain about Interstellar's nearly 3-hour runtime, I believe the movie is fully deserving of that length. There was really only one thing about Interstellar that made me step back from giving the movie a 10/10. I can't go into specifics about what it is, as it is near the end of the movie, and telling you what it is would spoil the entire movie. All I can say is that it is something that if you notice and think about, it contradicts some aspects of the plot that were constructed earlier in the film. The entire ending of Interstellar is very divisive for audiences; I know people that didn't like it, but I found that most of it worked and really appreciate where the story went. Interstellar is overall a fantastic movie, that MUST be seen on the biggest screen possible. It is a visual treat, a moving drama, and thrilling adventure that incorporates existing scientific theories with exceptional story-telling and action.
