    It's a Wonderful Life

I look upon this film as a parable of sorts. The film deals with every aspect of human life, much of which is not glamorous or pretty. That is, at its essence, what Capra was trying to show. But it gets much more involved as the Jimmy Stewart character becomes an Everyman who has fallen on hard times and desperate as to what to do. How relevent this 1947 film has become for our age when millions upon millions of people are suffering the same fate: losing their jobs, their savings, their homes... the very dignity to live. If the supernatural in the form of an angel comes to show George what the world would have been without his life on earth, I take this act as an act of God, that God is always there in time of need and worry. This is demonstrated in the re-incarnation of the old angel who helps as indeed the Almighty would always do no matter who the individual. If it vilifies corporate America so blatantly, just think of what corporate America has done in the last few years to ruin the lives of so many people all over the world. And yes! The recession/depression emenated from American Banking Institutions and the greed on Wall Street. Capra always singled out the ordinary Joe and the decency of family life which is nowhere to be found in this contemporary world of ours. Would we could have some of it back in our lives. We are the sorrier for its loss! Those who sneer at this movie should take a long long look at the truths it tells of life no matter the decade or the century in which we live. This film is so much more relevent today than in the aftermath of WW II ( 1947 ) when America was on a real high in terms of becoming the great super power, its citizens, almost all, enjoying the benefits of an American economy that became huge following the war. It is today that not only America, but the world at large is suffering much of what Capra shows in his film. Frank Capra, with 3 Oscars as Best Director proved himself not only a director who could tell a great story but more importantly he has proven to be a true visionary as to what can happen in this world of ours at any given time! I wish people would be able to look beyond a mere story of a man in trouble. There is so much more to this film including the wonder of having true friends in life. I could say so much more about this film, but I think I have adequately given some food for thought!
