Jersey Boys

Jersey Boys was one of my most anticipated films of 2014. I've only heard amazing things about the Broadway musical and the trailers were absolutely amazing. When I saw the very mediocre reviews, I was very sad and lowered my expectations quite a bit. Well, I'm very happy to say that Jersey Boys is just as good as I thought it would be! The story follows Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons as they form as a band and as they face their problems. The story itself is very interesting, though not THAT much happens throughout the course of the film. The characters are all so interesting and have lots of character and emotion to them. In fact, I think that the characters may be one of the highlights of the film. The lead actor, John Lloyd Young, was utterly outstanding as Frankie Valli. His voice is mesmerizing and his acting is very good. The supporting cast were all perfect for their roles. Especially Vincent Piazza as Tommy DeVito. All of the Four Seasons actors sounded so much like the original band that it was kind of creepy. The direction from Clint Eastwood was excellent and the writing was quite good. The costume design, lighting, makeup and hair-styling were all spot-on. The music, however, is just plain amazing. The soundtrack was so good, and the singing was just incredible. The only issue here is that the pacing was a little off and felt quite long at times. Also, a few of the actors felt misplaced. Overall, Jersey Boys is a fantastic musical with great acting, excellent direction and simply wonderful music. See it if you are a fan of the Four Seasons or just love musicals in general.
