    Julia

This deeply moving motion picture is a remembrance of Lillian Hellman, the stalwart playwright ( Jane Fonda), about her great friend Julia (Vanessa Redgrave) who in the WW II years was involved in almost every humanitarian cause due to the Nazi Régime. The screenplay of Lillian Hellman herself and Alvin Sargent is brilliant. Add to this that two time Oscar Winner Fred Zinnemann directed this project with such care and love. The entire cast is great, but when all is said and done, this movie belongs to Jane Fonda who was Nominated as Best Lead Actress and the stellar, unbelievable performance of Vanessa Redgrave who went on to win The Best Supporting Actress of 1977 playing JULIA. The film is so touching, beautiful yet shocking all at the same time. It's simply a tremendous period piece pre- and during the war years. Wardrobe, hairstyles, makeup all contribute to this meticulously miraculous film especially as it relates to Julia (Redgrave) who undergoes enormous transformation of the harrowing kind in this devastating period of our humanity. JULIA is one of the most inspiring films of the 1970's, one of the last films of brilliant director Fred Zinnemann. It's a must see.
