Went with expectation of a bent "Johnny English" experience. How bent, I couldn't fathom. "Kingsman" rather skirts that genre, in its way, it is quite unique. The cast was appropriate to role, mostly. Samuel L. Jackson is misdirected here, fey and annoying, and I like him usually. Colin Firth, Michael Caine, Mark Strong and Taron Egerton were fine, if near parodies. The script was variable, had moments, but generally relying on gutter term rather than deft creativity to cultivate effect. Low point of the film, totally. Yes, surplus mayhem, swathed over with cartoon-ish effect and a good thing too. Body count hefty. There was a singularly creative abuse of Lynyrd Skynrd that I had not anticipated ever experiencing. Clever in spots, no doubt. Could this rate a franchise, or sequels, maybe. Better writing, less gratuitous profanity, would assist that ambition. You'll end up admitting that you "haven't seen a film like that, lately." Hardly mundane, but could be a ceiling buster!
