    Klute

Having lost the Academy Award in 1969 for her extreme politics on the Viet Nam War, Hanoi Jane was at the top of everybody's hate list, that is those who meant anything. But people forget that Maggie Smith played and won the Oscar for a teacher in her prime, Miss Brodie, a supreme performance and an embodiment not soon forgotten. With 1971 rolling round, neither the lady or the talent could be overlooked or denied. As a worn but wise New York call girl named Bree, Jane Fonda gave a brilliantly etched performance of the highest order and at Oscar time the Academy proved the performance NOT the politics was the thing. This police story about high paid hooker made for some desperate thrills as the noose tightens on would be murder victims.
