Russel Crowe, Guy Pierce, Kevin Spacey and Academy Award Winner Kim Basinger provide for one of the best film noir of the contemporary era. Having seen this on first release, it was so good it deserved another viewing all these years later. The puzzling crimes lead to a variety of situations which are fully captivating from the standpoint of complex themes, corruption, suspense and a true added dimension of the sexy 'femme fatale' in this noir. Kim Basinger is absolutely spellbinding. It is all from the novel of James Elroy and one of the best films of that year. It should have won the Oscar over TITANIC a thousand times over.
