    Life According to Sam

This incredibly moving and inspirational documentary of 2014 on the the life of Sam Berns who died in 2014 at age 16 is a tragedy for so many reasons. He might have been 16 but with the rare and fatal aging disease he had he might as well have been an old man of 90. This film was an official selection at the Sundance Film Festival. The Oscar winning directors reveal an extremely perceptive and intelligent teen who was so very funny and accepted his fate as one of the unexplained mysteries of life. Sam was obviously an incredibly brave soul who accepted his fate with dignity. It is so ironic that both his parents were physicians who had to stand by and watch their son grow into a wizened, perversely odd looking youngster as it is generic to the fatal disease. Worst of all how hard must it have been to witness their son die so young. His parents will certainly devote their energies for a cure to this horrific disease which might unlock the mysteries of aging that everyone of us will have to face if we live to older age. It is so sad but typical that Sam wrote a wonderful treatise of sorts on happiness and why he was happy yet dying all along. This is a documentary that should be viewed by all especially those who never stop complaining about the few simple problems in their lives which are no problems at all but the perverse desire to constantly bitch over nothing. It just might wake them up and draw them into the reality of how CRUEL life can be, making them count their blessings that their lives are pretty secure.
