    Life of Crime

Life of Crime, a black comedy thriller recreating Detroit of 1978, is based on the Elmore Leonard novel called SWITCH, It might not be tops in Leonard adaptations, but it has charm, humour and a very capable, likable cast to make it work. The script is a good mixture of suspense, blackish comedy and enough idiotic turns to make an audience perk up and take notice of this outlandish entertainment. The plot could be well known: wife kidnapping, schemers, embezzlers, a whorish mistress, a variety of outrageous blokes, dames and twistful interactions to keep one satisfied. What makes the film work nicely as well is a real sense of menace yet not relying on out and out violence. This was a treat! The wit and energy OF LIFE of CRIME has a final revelation, a twist that will really make you stand up and take notice. I loved the cast. Jennifer Aniston was more than good, Isla Fisher a good foil to the wife, perfect, bumbling kidnappers as well as nice performances from Tim Robbins and John Hawkes. I enjoyed the film more and more as it unfolded!
