    Like Father, Like Son

The dilemma of this film is so genuinely charged with raw emotion as to affect anyone, particularly young parents and their offspring. We are privy to two Japanese families of different classes who must come to terms with a horrible mistake made at the time their sons were born in the same hospital, a revelation that changes the lives of all concerned, particularly of the upper class father whose family ties have not been particularly strong. It's all a deeply wounding experience, the sort of situation which has no easy answer, one that can never lead to any sort of quick resolution or healing. What is the correct, moral thing to do? Is there anything that can set things right? The film is intimate and real with flawless performances and that includes the two six year old boys. It's really a painful slice of life that examines family ties and the entire gamut of human values. Why can't North America produce films of such worth?
