    Limelight

Charlie Chaplin at his most enduring, beloved self out to save and protect a sweet, demeure ballerina played by a disarmingly young Claire Bloom. It is a tremendously beautiful and emotional film experience that will have even the cynics praising the gifts of the older Chaplin. The music, all written by Chaplin, adds so much to the movie with the song SMILE becoming one of the most outstanding songs of the 20th century. VERY UNUSUAL: Back in 1952, Limelight was not eligible for Academy Awards as it had NOT played in Los Angeles for a full week, if at all, as required by the Academy to be eligible. In the early 70's Limelight did open in Los Angeles and fulfilled all the necessary requirements for Oscar Nomination. Chaplin was nominated for Best Original Score of a Motion Picture winning the OSCAR some 20 odd years after the film was first made. It's a terrifically deserving Oscar.
