    Lunch

LUNCH is a delicious documentary by Donna Kanter, I presume the daughter of the great comedic writer/director Hal Kanter. Hal Kanter and a select group of comics, writers and directors meet for lunch every second Wednesday, in the last number of years in the same Hollywood establishment. From said Hal Kanter to Carl Reiner, Sid Caesar, Arthur Marx, Arthur Hiller, Monty Hall, Rocky Kalish, Marty Simmons, Ben Star, John Rappaport, and Gary Owen among others, you literally witness these venerable comedic geniuses having lunch, cracking jokes, kabitzing with each other, simply having a wonderful time. As the viewer, you see how incredible all of these men are, some very old but with minds as sharp as a razor. The performing artists names I've mentioned many will know, but the writer/directors of the group are just as amazing. It's all a delightful look at the lives of men who were at the very top of the comedy game in television and movie Hollywood. There is so much wisdom, comedic insight and a huge amount of laughter to be consumed that even at my so-called young age, I had a ball with this film. I would recommend it to anyone who has any aspirations at all of entering the comedy field. THE ONE SAD THING IS THAT THESE HEAVYWEIGHT LEGENDS HAVE BEEN PASSING AWAY IN THE LAST FEW YEARS, THE DOCUMENTARY HAVING BEEN FILMED AT SEVERAL LUNCHEONS DURING THE YEARS. Alternate Wednesday LUNCH HAS been going on for some 40 years. Just within the last year or so we lost the great Sid Caesar and Canadian director Arthur Hiller. I hope the lunch still takes place with new members added as the truly great ones pass on. This documentary proves that if you have decent health and sound mind, even at 90+ you still can be as witty and entertaining as when you were 30. LUNCH was so memorable as I've heard of so many of these great men. It was marvelous to finally put the name and the face of each genius together. Recommended to please anyone 25 years or older. The humour, the jokes are all too legendary to miss.
