This is a movie based on a series of books that my son is presently reading. Naturally, he practically dragged me into the cinema to see this film. I had seen the first one a year ago or so and, true enough, it was a movie that lived up to its title. It was literally set in a maze, hence the title. The second film doesn't take place in a maze at all but is still called The Maze Runner. I don't quite understand why it was called The Scorch Trials. Maybe calling it "trails" would have been more suitable since it takes place in a burned out wasteland that was once called America. I don't quite understand why there are zombies existing within ruins of society but then again I didn't read the book, which kind of leaves me in the dark when watching this film. My son enjoyed it very much so I think anyone who has been reading the books may enjoy the film more than those who haven't.

Thank you, you just made my case for me! They completely ruined the movie by not staying true to the book. They did a poor job of explaining what the zombies (cranks) were, and why; and they didn't explain at all that this was another trial (phase 2 of their scientific tests on the kids). there's a reason it's called 'the scorch trials'... they were put to the test, just like in the maze being monitored by the chip in the back of their neck (again, not clarified in the movie), out in the wastelands, called the scorch. They completely took that very important detail out! So naturally, those who never read the book have no idea what any of it meant. It was all part of the trials...
