As we see from the title "Me" comes first in this appalling movie which is some sort of tribute to teenage narcissism. In this film, the black kid (Earl) and the dying girl (Rachel) are little more than props for the movie in Greg's mind. The movie stumbles at the get-go when Greg's mom "forces" Greg to visit the cancer-stricken Rachel (a girl he does not even know!) The mom adds, "This will be a great opportunity for you". As if to say: this is a great way to pad your resume for college application. It's hard to believe the first awkward moments at Rachel's house - I think she would likely say to Greg: I don't know you! I'm sick, so leave me be! An entire air of unreality colors this pic. Earl has a disconcerting habit of uttering "dem titties" from time to time and yet he is brought forth to provide Greg with the revelation that he (Greg) is a bit of an opportunistic rotter, since it is the black kid who is always the keeper of wisdom, right? And poor old Rachel has to endure Greg's life-plan indecisions. So it is up to a cancer victim to ensure our hero's future by counselling him to go to college, right? I despise this abysmal, thoughtless film.
