Mud, an escaped convict, is obviously running from the law as he takes refuge in an area along the Mississippi. Needing serious help he gains the trust of two boys. The nature of the boys on a lark along the Mississippi brought back some inkling of Huck Finn, though in no way is this a story in the Mark Twain mode. One kind of falls in love with this desperado of sorts especially as he is underplayed by Matt Mc. in a damn fine way. It is one of his best performances ever, second only to Dallas Buyers Club! Young Tye Sheridan, the more central character of the 2 boys gives a knockout performance. I was captivated from scene one to a conclusion that is very, very memorable. This is not a MATT film to be missed. Too bad Interstellar proved a bit unworthy at this stage of Matt's career!
