    My Old Lady

After Bette Davis, 2 time Oscar winner Maggie Smith is the actor I adore most in the world. It's great that she keeps working in old age. Add to this Oscar Winner Kevin Kline and Oscar Nominee K Scott-Thomas who works equally well in English and French movies and you have this splendid trio of thespians who make cinéma going a thoroughly pleasurable experience. There is no need to get into any plot for we all know some American is on his way to Paris to... Don't expect to see the Maggie Smith of Downton Abby for you will be seriously disappointed. Miss Smith, no matter what she does on stage or in film just fills me with joy the second she opens her mouth. For those around my age (40) and younger YOU MUST see Dame Maggie in her first Academy Award Winning Performance as JEAN in the PRIME OF MISS JEAN BRODIE. The performance she delivers, her win is one of the best choices the Academy has ever made. PRIME was released in March of 1969 and no one thought Maggie's performance would be nominated let alone win. The film was released too damn early in that year. It's a testament to the gargantuan talent of Miss Smith that she beat out JANE FONDA for THEY SHOOT HORSES, DON'T THEY? the hands on favourite to win. I'm really not quite sure what the source material is for MY OLD LADY. If it is an original screenplay or taken from a novel, it could be turned into a theatre piece with a good chance of success. Lastly, any movie filmed in Paris or using Paris as the backdrop makes the work all the more beautiful!
