My wife and I just saw " My Straight Son " on April 25, 2015 and had the very same reactions to it. This film could have been a great deal better if much of the clutter within it had been removed. At two hours long, a gay father (a high end photographer) trying to reach out to his straight 17 year old son (visiting Venezuela from Spain) should have been the main or only concentration of the film. Unfortunately more is not necessarily BETTER! The drag singing in clubs, family viewing gay issues on Latino television and an overabundance of photo shoots were all superfluous. All these various factors seemed to add up to a film about everything and everybody. BIG MISTAKE! Writer/Director Miguel Ferrari was not very wise in overloading a script that needed no padding whatsoever. If the film had been trimmed by half hour, it would have become tighter, neater and stayed focused on the father/son duo instead of meandering all over the place. This feature demonstrates perfectly what not to do with a script that already has much going for it. It's 2 thumbs down or should I say 4 thumbs down on this co-production between Spain and Venezuela. It could have been a winner had the movie a better director!
