I have been waiting forever to see this piece of ancient junk from 1970 as a curiosity piece. WELL THE WAIT IS OVER... THIS FILM IS AS FUNNY AS HAVING OPEN HEART SURGERY just for starters. It was mainly because of MAE WEST as Leticia Van AllenI wanted to see the film. She should have stayed in retirement looking scary all dolled up as some 20 something year old at the age of 76. Too boot, she was into S+M. Very Creepy. Rex Reed, Raquel Welch, John Huston, Farah Fawcett in her second film, John Carradine, Andy Divine, Jim Bacchus and the rest of the MISFITS were pathetic in this mess of a movie that can only be described as criminal insanity. Director Michael Sarne was probably ostracized from Hollywood for good and producer Zanuck Junior should have been placed in a loony bin. A debacle of the first order mainly because writers Michael Sarne and David Giler had no clue as to what they were writing about... and secondly THEY CAN'T WRITE.

Now this is all very grim, but it didn't have to be this way. THE GREAT GORE VIDAL wrote a splashy bestseller which was a smart-ass take on AMERICANA, SEXUALITY and HOLLYWOOD. The novel and movie, of course, has a stylized witty, transgender character serving as some sort of guide to the proceedings. (Imagine the idea of a transgender character in 1970, quite unbelievable)

The movie had potential but all the wrong people were hired to make the film... Raquel Welch is unbearable as the transgender person who spanks the butt of a hot college dude and then does MORE. The ravings about the Hollywood system and non stop gibberish about 1940's movies even made me, ( the most devout movie fan of old Hollywood ) sick and quite green just unable to take anymore. Apparently Raquel wanted to get out of this mess as it was a disaster, apparently, even as they shot it. A lot of her work wound up on the cutting room floor. The reviews were so vitriolic it's a wonder 20th Century Fox ever survived the whole ordeal. M M is still a hot topic amongst movie buffs but all for the wrong reasons.
