    Penny Serenade

The first of Cary Grants two Oscar nominations pits him with film wife, five time Oscar Nominee, the luminous Irene Dunne in the frantic world of child adoption. Hopes are dashed over and over again as social worker, Beulah Bondi (also nominated) is in their corner and never stops fighting for their right to adopt. Once achieved tragic events hit. It is a very sentimental story, perhaps too much so, but Grant and Dunne make it work. It is a lovable film who most cherish, one of the first serious attempts to show the almost impossible child adoption processes as far back as 1941, the year the film was released.
