    Pride and Prejudice

The very best best of all the adaptations of Pride and Prejudice comes from a 1940 MGM classic with Greer Garson and Laurence Olivier. The Keira Knigtly modern adaptation comes in second. MGM went all out to assure that this was going to be a great film starting with the script for which Aldous Huxley was co-screen writer. Jane Austen's great, great novel comes totally alive in this sumptuous B & W version which truly can be considered the very start of Jane Austen's popularity with the movies and the movies in love with Jane Austen. It resounds with everything beautiful in the novel and thus is a totally faithful adaptation! A film I can see repeatedly and I do!
