This devastating film of unimaginable loss is a difficult film to watch at first blush, but, it is also triumphant. Nicole Kidman as Becca displays a whole spectrum of emotions in an oscar-worthy performance. The often under-appreciated Aaron Eckhardt as Howie is also fantastic as the guilt-ridden husband. It is their different approaches to coping which leads to conflict. To vary the tone there are also scenes of unexpected humor. Eg., when Aaron and Sandra Oh attend the support group under the influence of pot. This is a great film of its type and is more palatable than Antichrist but more potent than The Accidental Tourist.
