Race was one of those must-see movies, if you are aware of the significance of the events and the outcomes, and how this important story unfolded. While the subject and characters were handled competently, there was something standing in the way of deep emotional connection either with the story or the characters. More tragically, what was absent, was the adrenaline surge of watching fast, powerful, strong men sprinting. It was mostly done from behind Jesse's eyes, so we never experienced his greatest gift. Nice try, though.
