My indulgences have often been asked for in the name of art, but this is among the greatest requests for least reward. I have such admiration for much of the talent involved with "Shutter Island", that finding it so wanting really is dispiriting! Why or how this script or treatment ever got past the "mail room bin" is beyond me. It's not dialogue rich, taut, nor gripping and the performances really lack any memorable facets. Is this a contractual fulfilment piece? Martin Scorsese's "Metal Music Machine"? Lamentable enough, I do wonder.

Your review is so wordy it is difficult to gleen your exact opinion of this movie although reading between the lines it appears you don't like it.
I'll clarify. 4/10 is no accolade. Shutter Island is limp and long. The cast is superb. Mr. Scorsese himself has few peers in film history. Two and a half hours should have given getting to the point some traction. For me that never happened, can't recall a pinnacle moment. Unmemorable, this material squanders this talent. Dramatic thriller? Low drama, no thrill.
