    Silkwood

Silkwood from 1983 is a Mike Nichols drama-masterpiece. Nobody knew that CHER could act when the brilliant Nichols cast her as a lesbian room mate of KAREN SILKWOOD (MERYL STREEP) in the true story of a plutonium plant whistleblower (Streep) Cher's low key performance triggered a string of starring roles that eventually led to her BEST Oscar Performance in the brilliant and delightful MOONSTUCK of 1987 directed by Canadian NORMAN JEWISON. I wish Cher had continued with her acting career but she went back to her singing roots though she made TEA WITH MUSSOLINI by Franco Zeffirelli several years later. I could never have walked away from the high peek of an acting career.
