Sin City: A Dame to Kill For was one of my most anticipated movies of the year. To be honest, I have been waiting for this movie for YEARS! I am a huge fan of the original 2005 masterpiece and was very excited when they announced the sequel! Well, I'm very happy to say that Sin City 2 mostly lived up to my very high expectations and is an AWESOME movie!!! The story is a bit of a prequel and sequel at the same time. It follows familiar characters from the first movie, as well as some new people, as they live their eventful lives in the famous Sin City. The plot is very hard to sum up in a couple of sentences, since it's many stories and characters intertwining. It follows the same basic format as the first movie, with many situations and different stories happening very quickly. The visuals and cinematography are utterly breathtaking. The black and white aspect works very well and the comic-book like atmosphere is simply amazing. The 3D actually adds to the experience, which I didn't expect from this kind of movie. I don't think I could really express how much I adored the visuals in this movie. The story/stories were all very entertaining, with some being much better than others. One of the weak aspects was the Josh Brolin/Eva Green story. Though it was interesting and mostly well executed, it felt like it dragged on a little too long. My favourite story, the one starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt, was given almost half the time that the Josh Brolin one was. This made the pacing of the movie seem very uneven. The cast is totally top-notch. Josh Brolin, Jessica Alba, Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Bruce Willis all do totally over the top and awesome jobs as their fun characters. The real highlight of the cast, like in the first Sin City, was Mickey Rourke. Watching him kick ass was fantastic and he proves to be one of the coolest bad-ass characters in ages. The rest of the supporting cast all do very good jobs as well. The violence in this movie is awesome, with red and white blood all over the place. Many action scenes were shot extremely well and put me on the edge of my seat. The pace is mostly very fast, and makes you wish that it wouldn't end! The music was also excellent and gave the movie more of a noir feeling. Overall, Sin City: A Dame to Kill For is a totally awesome thrill-ride of a movie that met my very high expectations. Though not nearly as mindblowing as the first Sin City, all fans should check this out ASAP! RATING: 8.75/10.
