If you are a film fan who hasn't reached the 'Silent' era yet, or if you are a casual movie patron who believes that silent films are just old and colourless and everyone walks like a goose, then it's time to look up this masterpiece. German Expressionist director F. W. Murnau, begged by Fox Studios to come to America, left this film here as his legacy. Classified as a romance/drama, the film contains the emotional triggers of infidelity, joy, fear, danger and happiness, all with large doses of humour. The art of super-imposing images was used effectively, and Murnau presented us with a 1927 traffic jam that was every bit as horrific as those we see in the 21st century. The plot is not overly brilliant, but the actors, sets and cinematography all were. A 'must see'!
