    The Bad and the Beautiful

It is so ridiculous to call this film a romance though aspects convey the emotion, relatively speaking as it is hardly a modicum of what the film is aiming for. The tremendous array of actors star in one of the scandalous indictments of the Hollywood system from many points of view. It is as real as it portrayed 1952 Hollywood and the entire period of the 1940's, a cutthroat world that was quite shocking. The film was most daring to make, by VINCENTE MINELLI, who was talented enough to make all genre of films. From such a magnificent cast, it was only Gloria Grahame to win an Oscar in the supporting role. Frankly, her scenes were few and far between and I still debate if she should have been the Oscar winner of that year. She had done much finer performances and BAD and Beautiful seemed absolutely no stretch or what I would call a true blue Academy Award.
