    The Book Thief

What a cataclysmic inspirational saga from the best seller of the same name of World War II Germany and a young waif of a lass, Liesel, played to perfection by Sophie Nélisse, who in that hellish nightmare of the Hitler years somehow is able to transform the lives of all those near and dear to her. It must be by some sort of divine intervention as to me she embodies all the qualities of a little saint. The main plot and the several subplots of this work add up to a sheer masterpiece. Nothing is out of place. I so fell in love with this movie that I am devoutly viewing it again. You cannot but be taken in by The Book Thief, so moving as we are taken on this hellish, horrific journey during the Third Reich yet are exposed to persons of unbelievable courage and love. Oscar Winner Geoffrey Rush and Oscar Nominee Emily Watson play the adoptive parents of this young angel of a girl, both stars giving SUPER STELLAR performances under the able direction of BRIAN PERCIVAL ( of Downton Abbey fame ) This film will make you swell with emotion but not in a sappy or over-sentimentalized way. The film plays so realistically in this hell hole that was Germany that it will bring you to tears or totally overcome you. By the way, you will discover as the film evolves why it is called THE BOOK THIEF. The title seemed a bit odd and mysterious to me, but we come to realize it's a most appropriate one. A perfection of a movie!
