    The Circus

British born (Sir) Charlie Chaplin was at one time the best known person in the entire world, better known even than Presidents and Kings. One wonders though if notoriety, criminal charges, failed relationships, negative press and just plain bad luck were the price for his fame. Even this film was halted at one point due to a major fire. 'The Circus', however, is a gem of comic genius. Chaplin adds for our pleasure high-wire antics unrequited love, management-labour issues, a side story of female abuse resolved, and wild antics with an ornery mule. All under the big top.
