    The Danish Girl

The Danish Girl (2015) by Director: Tom Hooper… Writers: David Ebershoff (novel), Lucinda Coxon (screenplay) with actors, Alicia Vikander as Gerda Wegener Eddie Redmayne as Einar Wegener, acts as Lili Elbe, a transgender pioneer and the sparky Amber Heard as Ulla. This is a love story like no other in which dormant impulses from the inner nature of a human being come to life to his own surprise like a child making a new discovery and loving it, all this starts developing against all odds but never stops like a force of nature, indomitable, fierce, charging head on against everything hold dear by conservative minds full of disquieting surprise, curiosity, attraction, fear and distance from it. Gerda is witness and surprisingly a willing participant of this painful and novel transformation of Lili, Gerda awakening feelings of something alien happening in the relationship. This event is both confusing and surprising for both Gerda and Lili and an intense dialectic commences. There is understanding, complicity, rejection, lack of belief, denial and finally acceptance of the inevitable, with support for an unthinkable revelation; how, where? But the trip continues along with the bubbly Amber Heard as Ulla who seems oblivious of it all. The Butterfly coming out slowly from its original egg, the feeding stage and the dormant pupa (chrysalis) in its cocoon of silk, there is a parallel between the soft fabrics of feminine dresses which are caressed with delicacy by Lili, along with the chrysalis enveloped with a similar tissue, guided by nature from its transitional state to its completion. This is a story of another type of Sleeping Beauty awakening to suffer and make history like a sacrificial lamb. Lili shows bravery, determination and grace with and unparalleled beauty that will stay with us like a white hot tattoo.
