    The Face of Love

When you get 2 great actors such as Annette Bening and Ed Harris with Robin Williams in a supporting role (one of his last) that is already a bonus in my book. Bening and Harris are superlative in whatever they bring to the screen and this is no exception. I don't understand how people find human relationships boring especially one as complicated as this. The trouble is they are used to junk Hollywood films that require no thought process whatever. It astounds me that even some seniors can't relate to the dilemma of THE FACE OF LOVE. This pretty solid film deals with a theme that has been explored on a number of occasions in 2014 but not with the twists herein. It's the whole issue of the euphoria of LOVE and the devastation when it is LOST. However, in Face of Love there is something hanging in the balance that can and is quite disconcerting. It's a tough and tender film all at the same time as issues arise which are not solvable in the short term. It points out all too realistically, what in essence, happens to most in the course of a life. One's youth is priceless but it's over in a blink of an eye leaving one to contemplate the past. But this can be very dangerous territory if we do not learn how to get on with our lives, move forward and find something worthwhile to keep us going. When viewing the film it will remind you, to a degree, of one of my favourite Hitchcock films EVER... VERTIGO! But the exploration is hardly as dark and deep as Hitchcock conceived his masterpiece. I admire Annette Bening so much as she is a woman without an ounce of vanity. She is allowing herself to grow older graciously and this very part of her being translates to the screen in a satisfying, captivating manner. I hope she is NOT going to be one of the many Hollywood greats who remains OSCARLESS as she deserves one. She should have won for her indelible performance in American Beauty or is it American Splendour opposite Kevin Spacey who did take the Oscar as Best Actor. I was very satisfied with The Face of Love.
