    The Good Lie

This Canadian film from the maker of Monsieur Lazhar, Director Falardeau is only fair at best, hardly as competent as LAZHAR. I guarantee most will enjoy and feel uplifted. Though this is a story of hope and redemption to a large measure, one that makes us feel good, I had my reservations about the film from a few standpoints. First of all, it is admirable how some individuals will risk all to save those in society who are most needy. But this happens time and time again and we find ourselves in similar predicaments. Why do World Governments not get seriously involved in the plight of the most miserable of this earth? The reason is SIMPLE! THEY WILL GAIN NOTHING FROM IT. THIS IS ESPECIALLY TRUE OF THE U.S. who only helps or goes to war to guarantee their own interests! Why don't we, as individuals, pressure our governments to get more involved in life and death global situations? So we witness another film of individuals helping out in what seems a deluge of problems. Are these films made to help ease our own white consciences as we view some merciful folk of our kind extend the hand of hope? I don't know. I am very conflicted on this issue as well as such films being made over and over again!

The film might be somewhat inspiring, but it is hardly original and plays in a sort of vacuum where thought, word and deed are rather clichéd. Director Falardeau is hardly inspiring in his making of the film; the screenplay is not good and the acting is rather poor! To add to the distress of the film, if I can use such a term, a comical element enters the feature which left me at odds. I didn't know how to react to it! This is a film that left me rather stumped. I can offer no other opinion. I didn't particularly like the film or how it went about telling its story. The whole endeavour rather bothered me. I would prefer such films not be made, its money (as well as ours) used as aid in contemporary conflicts in which lives are at stake!
