    The Great Gatsby

Having seen the 1974 lacklustre version of Gatsby with Robert Redford and Mia Farrow, I was quite taken with the Di Caprio/Mulligan most recent version though overdone as is the usual case with Baz Lur. Films. What, however, was a real treat in terms of cinéma history was to have seen this old chestnut with Alan Ladd and Betty Field, who rarely was the leading lady. I absolutely adore Betty Field, such a fine actress who was way underrated. I first saw her in OF MICE AND MEN from 1939 with Burgess Meredith. In any case, almost every one knows the Great Gatsby. I'm hardly going to try to compare the several versions. Suffice to say that with my passion for Old Hollywood Films, the 1949 version with so many actors I revere stands pretty tall.
